Welcome.
I’m a writer, a poet, a reader, a mom, a teacher, and a bunch of other exciting things. But these pages are devoted to my love of writing, especially writing for kids. And a special joy for writing and reading poetry – everybody needs poetry.
I write because putting words on paper for you — a reader — is the best thing I think I can do in the world. It’s hard and I learn more every single day.
I teach because you too might be a writer and might need some tools to find your writing voice. It took me a long time to say – I am a writer and I am a poet. I teach to show you how to say those important words too.
I live in Wisconsin — maybe thirty minutes from Saint Paul, Minnesota with my two teens, my husband, and our two dogs.
I hope you’ll enjoy my writing and teaching experiments — and experiences!

Emmy in the Key of Code – Verse is the Only Way This Story Will Be Told
I think there’s something magical about a story told through poetry – and we are lucky to have some master poets contributing to this genre (Nikki Grimes, Elizabeth Acevedo, Kwame Alexander to name a few). I’m going to bet that Aimee Lucido will join those ranks. If...
Emmy In the Key of Code
I remember the moment when Aimee Lucido told me she had an idea for a verse novel. “Something with coding, cause it’s like music and poetry, and a young girl.” I think that’s what she said. We were standing outside of our workshop during residency at the Hamline MFA...
