Else and Joey is a middle grade verse novel about a brother and sister whose mother struggles with depression. Narrated by Else, the novel shows the ways Joey and Else try to give themselves tools to survive and even thrive in the chaos created by their mother’s illness.
Sophie and the Magic Journal is a middle grade magical realism novel. Trina, Sophie’s best friend, just told her they need to find other friends. Sophie just started sixth grade. And then, the weird journal her mother’s friend gave her for her birthday, starts sending her messages. Messages about people in danger. Including Trina who really isn’t interested in anything Sophie says anymore.
