Welcome.
I’m a writer, a poet, a reader, a mom, a teacher, and a bunch of other exciting things. But these pages are devoted to my love of writing, especially writing for kids. And a special joy for writing and reading poetry – everybody needs poetry.
I write because putting words on paper for you — a reader — is the best thing I think I can do in the world. It’s hard and I learn more every single day.
I teach because you too might be a writer and might need some tools to find your writing voice. It took me a long time to say – I am a writer and I am a poet. I teach to show you how to say those important words too.
I live in Wisconsin — maybe thirty minutes from Saint Paul, Minnesota with my two teens, my husband, and our two dogs.
I hope you’ll enjoy my writing and teaching experiments — and experiences!

The Start of What I Learned From When They See Us
I’m 45. Soon to be 46. When the Central Park jogger case happened, I was a junior in high school. I’m also white. And yes, that’s important to know. Here’s what I remembered: Wilding – scary thing happening with young men in Central Park. Young black men were accused....
Upon Waking: 58 Voices from the Shadow of Abuse
I’m excited to announce the publication of an anthology – Upon Waking: 58 Voices from the Shadow of Abuse. One of those voices, is mine. Two of my poems are included – “The Child Knows No” and “In Which I Sue for Memory and Associated Damages.” I’m honored and proud...
